Switching Denominations, Shopping for Religion

"Switching Denominations" and "Shopping for Religion" made the main religious headlines last week because the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life released an important new survey – the broadest and biggest yet – of church affiliations and religious sentiments among our citizens.
Two items stood out. One, much covered in headlines and TV and radio lead stories, was the discovery – hardly news! – that Protestants are on the verge of becoming a minority and that "mainline" Protestants suffered, declining and losing loyalties as fast as did non-Hispanic Catholics. The other, equally noticed, was the trend of Americans to switch denominational loyalties and go shopping for religion.
Ellen Goodman in the February 28 Boston Globe found it "most fascinating that 44 percent of Americans have left the religious traditions in which they grew up," a phenomenon she had not much noticed while growing up. Pew's Luis Lugo and sociologist Nancy Ammerman provided historically-informed perspective on the Jim Lehrer News Hour: They were impressed by news about "switching," our main topic today, but showed balance as they put the trend of today in historical perspective.
Switching does go on everywhere, so "better duck" is good advice to those who do not like news of this factor in American religion whizzing around and above them. There is no place to hide, I thought, as a not-unrepresentative case study reached me via an old Media Transparency clip, one which backgrounds a major story this week. The subject was the dismissal from the White House staff of admitted plagiarist Tim Goeglein, the staffer most credited by Christian Right political leaders with having bonded them into a successful voting bloc.
A feted and faithful Lutheran layman from Ft. Wayne, Indiana, he comes from rock-ribbed strata of solidity and, one would assume, shows unswitchable stolidity. Yet he switched from "liberal" Lutheranism to conservatism. He was not alone among the Goegleins. According to the Indianapolis Star, "his oldest brother is a lawyer, Democrat and a Catholic, while his sister is a professor, a Democrat and a convert to Judaism after going to a Quaker school," while, continues the Star, "his younger brother married a Jew and has converted to Eastern Orthodoxy, which is prominent on the maternal side of Goeglein's family."
If that kind of "flexibility" and switching goes on in the green tree of Ft. Wayne Lutheranism, imagine what happens under dry trees. Check it out by taking a look around at your next family reunion.

Google Adult Content Filter

Google Adult Content Filter
In continuing to take a look at the nuts and bolts aspect of data feed marketing, I wanted to take a look at Google Product Search’s adult content filters.
When using Google Product Search, aka GoogleBase, Google has a filtering system in place to block objectionable material from searches. The only issue is that many people don’t know this exists.
The adult content filter has the ability to scan not only text but also images submitted. The exact rules the filter abides by are not public, but the filter does have the potential to make a mistake and filter every day items that merchants are trying to sell.
As a quick example, go to Google product search page: http://www.google.com/products
If you look towards the search bar next to the ‘Search Products’ button, you will see a small link labeled ‘Preferences’. By clicking on this link, you can set the ways items may display including the below option:
SafeSearch Filtering
Google’s SafeSearch blocks web pages containing explicit sexual content from appearing in search results.
-Use strict filtering: (Filter both explicit text and explicit images)-Use moderate filtering: (Filter explicit images only - default behavior)-Do not filter my search results.
I suggest double checking your total product catalog using these different filter settings. I have seen it before that an entire product catalog can disappear by changing these settings. As a default, Google has strict filtering in place. If you can’t see all of your products with this filter on, then there is a large probability your customers are missing out as well.
Performing this quick check can make sure you are achieving the highest visibility on Google Product Search.

The Prophesied End-Time Revealed 2012

US Government Announces End of the World
In 2012
End of the World 2012
Yes! 2012... shall be the year of reckoning. 2012 shall be remembered in history of mankind forever. Why?
From the position of planetary movements and astrological calculations... the significance of number three for present civilization is immense. The 12th year of 21st century totals number three.
Talking of 2012 means... we have already stepped into the 21st century which numerically totals three. The 12th year also totals to three. A significant upheaval on the whole shall be the order of the day.
Adharma (lawlessness) would be rooted out for ever. 2012 and beyond is the period of spiritual elevation. 2012 rings start of golden era. Beyond 2012 it shall be harmony and peace all over.
The society would have learnt its lessons. Unethical practices and wanton desires would take a back seat. The lure of money and position would cease to exist. A pot of gold found lying in the backyard would not have a claimant!
The glitter of gold and diamonds would be passé. The spiritual wisdom would become the order of the day. 2012 is the year of sacrifice. Both... the sinner (committer of crime) and the innocent will be sacrificed. One who has committed crime shall face the gallows. Those who uphold and cherish values in the society would sacrifice their lives for the sake of humanity.
The sacrifice by the eminent would be by will. To cleanse the society of its ills in 2012... many would come forward and sacrifice self on the altar of God. Unless that happens... the upheaval in the society is not possible. The blood of the innocent would be spilled. There is no other remedy.
Every individual who is found guilty by the society would be done away outright. The legal laws, judiciary, administration and the political setup would not provide a much needed respite to them. 2012 is the year of Florence Nightingale. The dawn of the New Era (the golden period) could not occur without innocents laying their lives for the sake of their country
Democracy would truly be practiced in 2012 as it was meant to be. By the people, for the people and of the people shall become order and motto of the day. The complete power in every country would get transferred to public at large.
No scales would ever weigh in favor of culprits beyond 2012. The corrupt advocacy would find itself short on words... 2012 announces an end of practice for corrupt professionals of Kali Yuga (the present metal age... the dark age).
For the society to climb back to its pristine glory of the golden era... even the meek would handle metal (pick arms). Whatever the poor and the downtrodden lay their hands upon would become their weapon. In the last phase of the
North America is now suffering its seventh year of conspicuous and dangerous aerosol and electromagnetic operations
conducted by the U.S. government under the guise of national security. Concerned citizens watch in fear as military tankers discolor the skies with toxic chemicals that morph into synthetic clouds.
Black operations projects embedded within these aerosol missions are documented to sicken and disorient select populations with biological test agents and psychotronic mind/mood control technologies.
Part of what is happening in the atmosphere above us involves the Pentagon,s secret space weapons program, designed for strategic, operational and tactical levels of war. NASA missions will soon be transferred to Pentagon control.1 The Air Force Space Command declares that, in order to monitor and shape world events, it must fight intense, decisive wars with great precision from space.2 Air Force Secretary James G. Roche has stated: "Space capabilities are integrated with, and affect every link in the kill chain."3
A glimpse into new death technologies under construction4 is in legislation introduced by Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinch. His unsuccessful Space Preservation Act of 2001 was intended to ban space deployment of:
* electronic, psychotronic and information weaponry
* high altitude ultra low frequency weapons
* plasma, electromagnetic, sonic and ultrasonic weapons
* laser weapons
* strategic, theater, tactical or extraterrestrial weapons
* chemical biological, environmental climate or tectonic weapons
* chemtrails (this item was stricken from a later version, suggesting duress)
In their quest to remain top dog in the kill chain, the purveyors of perpetual war have deliberately dimmed earth,s life-giving sunlight5 and reduced atmospheric visibility6 with lung-clogging particulates and polymers. This ecological terrorism has severely compromised public health, according to thousands of testimonials. Years of mass appeals to legislators, media and military officials for information, and for cessation of catastrophic atmospheric degradation, have fallen on deaf bureaucratic ears. Public awareness of what befalls us remains as murky as our skies because those "in the know" are muzzled by national secrecy laws and Americans have no authority to challenge matters of national security. Left to gather clues, we know this much so far:
1. At least part of the aerosol project has been dubbed Operation Cloverleaf,7 probably due to its multi-faceted operations,

Left to gather clues, we know this much so far:
1. At least part of the aerosol project has been dubbed Operation Cloverleaf,7 probably due to its multi-faceted operations,
which include: weather modification, military communications, space weapons development, ozone and global warming research plus biological weaponry and detection testing.
.8 The air we breathe is laden with asbestos-sized synthetic fibers and toxic metals, including barium salts, aluminum, and reportedly, radioactive thorium.9 These materials act as electrolytes to enhance conductivity of military radar and radio waves.10 Poisonous on par with arsenic and a proven suppressant of the human immune system,11 atmospheric barium weakens human muscles, including those of the heart.12 Inhaled aluminum goes directly to the brain and medical specialists confirm that it causes oxidative stress within brain tissue, leading to formation of Alzheimer's like neurofibrillary tangles.13 Radioactive thorium is known to cause leukemia and other cancers.14
3. Only a small percentage of the military,s atmospheric modification projects are visibly obvious. What we can,t see is equally dangerous. The ionosphere, the earth and its inhabitants are continually bombarded with high frequency microwaves used to manipulate the charged atmosphere for weather modification, information gathering and for tectonic (earthquake-producing) weaponry.15 Independent chemtrail researcher Clifford Carnicom confirms that we are also continuously subjected to extremely low electromagnetic frequencies (ELF) pulsing at 4 hertz multiples, frequencies known to profoundly affect human biological and mental functioning.16
4. There is a well-documented biological component to continuously ongoing atmospheric studies in which nations and regions are furtively inoculated via specially designed delivery systems with combinations of viruses, bacteria, fungi, mycoplasma, desiccated blood cells and exotic biological markers so that testmasters can assess human, animal and plant response.17
5. The multi-organizational megalith perpetrating these bio-chem projects against humanity includes the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) and its research arm DARPA, plus the Department of Energy (DOE) with its huge network of national labs and universities. Private defense contractors and pharmaceutical companies are heavily involved.18 Cooperating governments of other nations and probably some United Nations agencies are complicit, since the aerosol projects are global in scope.
Gross chemical and electromagnetic pollution is only part of the horrific realities we endure. The sociopaths who brazenly pervert skies, climate and weather for power and profit are the same madmen who have waged four limited nuclear wars since 1991. Radioactive weaponry, declared both illegal and immoral by the entire civilized world, has been used by the Pentagon in Desert Storm, the Balkans campaign and the on-going occupation-wars against Afghanistan and Iraq. Few Americans understand the extent of carnage inflicted in their name across the planet.

Anglican Church

Anglican church seeks oversight from bishop in South America
ROBERT MATAS
VANCOUVER — Moments before they decided to align with an orthodox Anglican bishop in South America, members of Vancouver's St. John's Shaughnessy Church, one of the largest Anglican congregations in Canada, attended a Bible study session.
In the latest development in a controversy that has arisen within several different religions, the conservative Anglican congregation in Vancouver voted on Wednesday evening to request episcopal oversight by Archbishop Gregory Venables of the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone. If accepted, the Vancouver parish would, in effect, be cut off from the Anglican Church in Canada..
The rector, Rev. David Short, talked a lot about church unity that day, Lesley Bentley, a spokeswoman for St. John's Shaughnessy, said yesterday in an interview.
Mr. Short spoke about the importance of church unity with Scripture and of a common understanding of Scripture, particularly around core values, Ms. Bentley recalled. "It was about the supremacy of the Bible and the uniqueness of Jesus Christ."
The study group did not talk about the blessing of same-sex unions, she added. "From our point of view, that is not what the vote was about," Ms. Bentley said.
The schism within the church in Greater Vancouver stems from a decision at the annual meeting of the Diocese of New Westminster in June of 2002 to allow clergy to bless long-term same-sex relationships.
The Diocese of New Westminster includes the entire Vancouver region and the Sunshine Coast.
Most Anglican churches in the region support same-sex blessings. However, St. John's Shaughnessy walked out of the diocese after the vote in 2002. It tried to maintain its ties with the national organization, the Anglican Church of Canada. At the request of the diocese, the national organization refused.

As a result, St. John's Shaughnessy since 2002 has been unable to arrange the ordination of young men and women trained at the parish who are ready for the ministry.
The dispute is over a much more fundamental issue than a disagreement over same-sex blessings, Ms. Bentley said. Bishop Michael Ingham, who heads the Diocese of New Westminster, deals with Scripture in a completely different way than the congregation at St. John's Shaughnessy, she said.
"He looks at Scripture through the lens of what is happening in society now and tries to make Scripture adapt to society. We look at society through the lens of Scripture and say, how does Scripture inform us about what is happening in society now," Ms. Bentley said.
The vote on same-sex blessings in 2002 was the only opportunity to express formally their opposition to Bishop Ingham's views, she said.

Accuse church of having a cult mentality
fight with the Church of Scientology that began in cyberspace took to the streets yesterday - around the world.
Some three dozen young people, heeding the call of a loosely linked Internet collective called Anonymous, staged a morning protest outside the church's office at 10255 97 St.
They held placards, passed out pamphlets and encouraged passing motorists to sound their support.
"Our goal here today is to bring awareness to people about the church because they're very secretive and go to great lengths to hide their secrets," said one protester, who like his colleagues was wrapped up in a hood and scarf so as to be unrecognizable and who, like the others, refused to give his name.
"There is no active 'joining' of Anonymous," he said in explaining how the Edmonton protest came about.
"We are simply everyone and no one - a group of people with common ideas, mostly from the Internet."
The protesters offered a litany of complaints against Scientology, a church made famous by a membership that includes celebrities like actor Tom Cruise.
The protesters accused the church of having unorthodox views on medicine and psychology, a corporate structure and, they stressed, a cult mentality.
But the protesters added yesterday's demonstrations outside Scientology centres around the world followed recent aggressive efforts by the church to remove a leaked video of Cruise from the web.
"Basically, it's because they picked a fight with us on the Internet," said another young man. "We want free speech."
Local church staff, meanwhile, referred questions to their national office in Toronto - which describes Anonymous as "mask-wearing cyber-terrorists" - but said they planned to proceed yesterday with an afternoon service as usual.
"Anonymous is perpetuating religious hate crimes against churches of Scientology and individual scientologists for no reason other than religious bigotry," the national office said in a statement.

Jesus, Religions, and Just War
By Paul Copan
Who of us hasn't heard the claim that "religion leads to warfare?" We're familiar with sweeping military campaigns in the Middle East and North Africa in the name of Islam.
In the name of Christ, Crusaders marched to take land back that was previously under Christendom. In 16th and 17th century Europe (1550-1650), wars between Protestant and Catholic rulers brought much bloodshed.
There have been czarist pogroms against the Jews -- often with religious justification.
Mohandas K. Gandhi was killed by a militant Hindu in 1948; Sri Lanka's prime minister was assassinated by a Buddhist monk in 1959.1
In our day, we've seen Catholics and Protestants clashing in Northern Ireland. In India, we've seen Hindus and Muslims fighting one another.
Buddhists and Hindus have been fighting in Sri Lanka.
We've seen the Ayatollah Khomeini calling for the death of Salman Rushdie because of his Satanic Verses.
Does religion lead to violence and religious wars?

At the Canadian Reformed Church, we believe that the Bible, comprising the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is God's inspired, infallible (unfailing), and inerrant (unerring) Word. It is the final authority on matters of doctrine and life. It is the Holy Spirit who sovereignly applies the Gospel to us by working repentance and faith into the hearts of God's chosen, covenant people. The Head of our church is Jesus Christ, who has appointed officers for the care and nurture of His body.
It is our sincere wish that you come and join us in the worship of our Saviour and King Jesus Christ. Come and be refreshed and renewed by the living preaching and fellowship of believers.

2. All of us have done, said or thought things that are wrong. This is called sin, and our sins have separated us from God.
The Bible says “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” God is perfect and holy, and our sins separate us from God forever. The Bible says “The wages of sin is death.”

3. God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins.
Jesus is the Son of God. He lived a sinless life and then died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. “God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.”
Jesus rose from the dead and now He lives in heaven with God His Father. He offers us the gift of eternal life -- of living forever with Him in heaven if we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me."
God reaches out in love to you and wants you to be His child. "As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe on His name." You can choose to ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and come in to your life as your Lord and Savior.
4. If you want to accept Christ as Savior and turn from your sins, you can ask Him to be your Savior and Lord by praying a prayer like this:
"Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. Please forgive my sins and give me the gift of eternal life. I ask you in to my life and heart to be my Lord and Savior. I want to serve you always."

Homeless in Vancouver and Suburban area's

Poll: Vancouverites say homelessness top issue
A new poll suggests homelessness is the biggest issue facing the Vancouver and its suburbs, far surpassing even crime and health care.
"I don't like it. I don't think anyone likes it," said Mike, 44, who lives in the bush of Maple Ridge.
The poll was conducted by the Strategic Counsel for CTV, the Globe and Mail and CKNW Radio. When asked what is the most important issue facing the Vancouver area, 24 per cent said homelessness.
Here are the complete results:
Homelessness: 24 per cent
Traffic and transit: 22 per cent
Health care: 14 per cent
Crime: 12 per cent
House prices: 10 per cent
Poverty: 7 per cent
Environment: 2 per cent
Vancouver homeless population may triple by 2010
Vancouver's homeless population is growing at such a fearsome rate that it could triple to 3,000 people by the time visitors arrive for the 2010 Olympic Games, says a report released by an advocacy group Thursday.
"Without immediate action, the estimated 2.3 million visitors who come to our city to see the Olympics will find a Vancouver in the midst of an urban epidemic of poverty," said Pivot Legal Society spokesman David Eby as he released the report.

A Promise From Sammy.
Pivot, a non-profit group that develops advocacy campaigns for marginalized people, said the crisis can be averted if existing low-income housing is preserved or replaced. Between June of 2005 and June this year, the city lost more than 400 low-income rooms due to closings of hotels, conversions or rent increases.
Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan didn't argue with the advocacy group's findings.
"It's a civic, and provincial and national shame,"
Sullivan told CTV News. "We need to do better and I am working on some initiatives to work with the federal and provincial governments and even to bring in private sector funding.
Pivot says the city needs 800 new units every year to keep up with the demand, and is calling on the province and city to provide a three-part solution:
1. provide money for more low-cost housing
2. raise welfare rates and
3. force building owners to repair and improve their low-income units by enforcing existing city bylaws

Do Children Need Religion?
For healthy psychological development, kids need to know there is something greater than themselves.
By Dr. Erika J. Chopich
"Setting the alarm on Sunday mornings is inhuman...God should know that!" Those were my adolescent thoughts every weekend when my parents forced me to church. "I can get more out of my headphones and the Beatles." It was this way as far back as I can remember. Early Sunday school, then later Bible studies, liturgies in another language, all culminating in a weekly teen rebellion against God and my parents. I would brood the entire hour's drive to church just to make my parents as miserable as I felt. It never changed in all those years.
I look back thirty-five years later and bless my parents for the gift they gave me. I no longer practice their religion, but I live with every pore in my body believing in something greater than myself. My faith is as easy as breathing, and during times of great challenge, I don't have to search for God or strength. Everything I need is already there and will always be.
I have seen my peers dedicate themselves to never raising a child that way. "I will never force my child into religion the way my parents did" became a mantra. "I will wait until they are old enough and let them choose for themselves." Those choices, along with the "feel good" experiments of the seventies, have been a dismal failure. The result is an ever-increasing growth of what I call "entitlement fixated" people. It is so pervasive that, had I the power, I would make it a new personality-disorder designation.
When children are raised to never know failure, they can't savor success nor appreciate the motivation that second place instills. If they don't learn that we must, at times, do things we dislike for a greater good, they don't learn self-discipline. If we don't instill empathy early on, they may never know the complete joy in giving. And if we neglect their spiritual natures, they may never truly trust God.
